EGX Rebounds Strongly as Foreign Investors Return in Final Week of November

Must read

Egypt’s stock market closed the final week of November on a strong note, marking one of the more coordinated upswings across all major indices in recent weeks. The Egyptian Exchange ended Thursday, 27 November in the green, with the benchmark EGX30 advancing 1.27% to 40,039.24 points. The gains reflected a marked improvement in market sentiment and a clear shift in investor positioning, particularly with the return of non-Arab foreign buyers who helped rebalance trading flows after a period of persistent outflows earlier in the month.

The upward momentum extended beyond the blue-chip universe. The EGX33 Shariah Index surged 1.22% to 4,211.12 points, while the EGX35-LV climbed 0.84% to 4,448.31 points. Broader market indices delivered similarly steady performance: the EGX70 for SMEs rose 0.67% to 12,244.31 points, and the EGX100 added 0.74% to reach 16,223.29 points. The across-the-board appreciation underscored renewed buying appetite across sectors and capitalisation tiers, reflecting a broad stabilisation rather than a narrow, index-heavy move. Total market capitalisation closed the session at EGP 2.85 trillion, signalling the retention of liquidity within the market despite rotational flows.

Investor behaviour was a defining feature of the week’s dynamics. Egyptians and Arab investors were net sellers, posting outflows of EGP 480.36 million and EGP 391.6 million respectively, suggesting a degree of profit-taking following recent market resilience. In contrast, non-Arab foreign investors re-emerged as net buyers with EGP 871.96 million—an important reversal that provided upward pressure across the main indices. This foreign inflow reinforced expectations that valuation-driven opportunities in Egyptian equities are regaining attention as global markets adjust to shifting interest-rate expectations and as Egypt’s macroeconomic narrative stabilises ahead of upcoming policy milestones.

Corporate performance added further texture to the week’s market movement. Leading the pack on the gainers’ list were Subscription Rights of Macro Group Pharmaceuticals – Macro, which surged 13.49% to 0.631 pounds, and A Capital Holding, rising 13.07% to 9.600 pounds. Misr Beni Suef Cement also posted an impressive 8.36% increase to 239.78 pounds, reflecting renewed interest in select industrial and building-materials plays. Conversely, Credit Agricole Egypt topped the decliners, retreating 4.11% to 20.980 pounds, followed by East Delta Flour Mills, down 3.89% to 303.57 pounds, and Egyptian Media Production City, which slipped 3.60% to 26.520 pounds. These downturns pointed to sector-specific repositioning rather than broad market softness.

Overall, the final week of November delivered a constructive performance for the EGX, marked by the return of foreign inflows, synchronized growth across primary and secondary indices, and renewed buying interest in select industrial and consumer-linked equities. The market enters December with a cautiously optimistic tone, supported by improving liquidity conditions and the prospect of clearer macroeconomic signals in the weeks ahead.
