Must read

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, has appointed Osama Abdelrahman Morsy Youssef as Chairman and Managing Director of Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO), promoting a senior executive with nearly two decades of experience in the company’s production and plant operations.

Abdelrahman, who graduated from Alexandria University with an engineering degree in 1993, joined MOPCO as a department head in 2007. He became Assistant General Manager for Urea and Packaging in 2011, General Manager of Urea Production in 2013, and Assistant Chairman for Production in 2019, before advancing to Vice Chairman for Plant Operations.

His appointment, announced on 10 October, forms part of a wider petroleum-sector leadership reshuffle aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening management capabilities.

MOPCO is a major Egyptian producer of nitrogen fertilisers, converting natural gas into higher-value urea for domestic agriculture and export markets.

Abdelrahman’s promotion places an experienced production executive at the helm of a strategically important industrial company. His immediate priorities will include maintaining plant reliability, improving production efficiency, managing gas-supply constraints and strengthening export competitiveness. His performance will ultimately be measured by operational continuity, profitability and the company’s contribution to Egypt’s foreign-currency earnings.
