Egypt has opened applications for 400 ready-built industrial units across ten governorates, including facilities reclaimed from investors who failed to meet implementation deadlines, as the government seeks to lower manufacturing start-up costs and bring idle industrial assets back into production.
The Industrial Development Authority (IDA) announced the offering on 14 October, covering 11 industrial complexes, with applications accepted from 15 to 29 October through the Egypt Industrial Digital Platform.
Ranging from 48 to 960 square metres, the units accommodate activities including food processing, engineering, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, leather and building materials. Ownership and rental arrangements vary by location.
IDA Chairperson Nahed Youssef said the completed buildings and utilities would allow manufacturers to avoid construction costs and delays. Investors may also qualify for simplified licensing procedures, bank financing and support for machinery purchases, subject to applicable conditions.
A central feature is the recovery of previously allocated facilities. The authority confirmed that some units had been withdrawn from investors who missed implementation deadlines, including extensions, although it did not disclose how many were reclaimed.
The offering follows an earlier allocation of 414 industrial units announced in April, reflecting a continuing effort to improve the utilisation of existing industrial infrastructure.
For smaller manufacturers, completed premises could reduce initial capital requirements and accelerate market entry. However, access to buildings alone cannot overcome financing constraints, equipment costs, working-capital requirements or difficulties securing reliable suppliers and customers.
The initiative also supports Egypt’s broader ambition to expand domestic manufacturing and strengthen industrial supply chains, although its contribution to investment, employment and production has yet to be quantified.
