Global outsourcing company launches its first Generative AI Center of Excellence in Egypt as it targets 3,000 specialists by 2028, reinforcing Cairo’s ambitions to become a regional hub for high-value digital services.
CAIRO — Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has inaugurated the regional headquarters of global digital outsourcing company Konecta in New Cairo, marking the operational launch of the company’s planned $100 million expansion in Egypt and the establishment of its first global Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Centre of Excellence.
The investment positions Egypt as Konecta’s regional delivery hub serving clients across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas, while supporting the company’s strategy to expand AI-powered customer experience, enterprise digital transformation, data analytics, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT) and multilingual business-process outsourcing services.
The new headquarters currently employs around 800 Egyptian specialists, providing customer engagement and digital services in Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Dutch. Konecta plans to increase its workforce to approximately 1,000 employees by the end of 2026 before expanding to around 3,000 specialists by the end of 2028.
A key component of the expansion is Konecta’s first global Generative AI Centre of Excellence, which will develop, test and deploy advanced AI solutions across the company’s international operations. Egyptian engineering teams are also contributing to the localisation and development of Kolibri, Konecta’s proprietary Agentic AI platform designed to automate enterprise customer-service workflows and accelerate commercial AI deployment.
The investment reflects a broader transformation underway across the global business-process outsourcing industry, where providers are increasingly shifting from traditional voice-based support towards AI-enabled customer experience, automation, analytics and multilingual digital services. Egypt has sought to position itself alongside established outsourcing destinations such as India, the Philippines and Poland by leveraging its multilingual workforce, competitive operating costs and proximity to European markets.
Speaking during the inauguration, MCIT Minister Raafat Hindi said the expansion demonstrated growing international confidence in Egypt’s digital economy and reflected the government’s efforts to attract higher-value technology investments. He said hosting Konecta’s first global Generative AI Centre of Excellence aligned with Egypt’s strategy of expanding advanced technology exports while strengthening local digital capabilities and creating highly skilled employment opportunities.
The minister added that continued investment by international technology companies supports the transfer of global expertise to Egyptian professionals, enhances the country’s competitiveness as a destination for knowledge-intensive outsourcing and contributes to the expansion of Egypt’s digital services exports.
Ahmed El-Zaher, Chief Executive Officer of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), said the project forms part of the agency’s broader partnerships with multinational technology companies to increase exports of digital services while generating specialised employment. He noted that establishing a global AI centre in Egypt reflects the country’s growing capabilities in advanced technologies and its transition towards higher-value outsourcing services.
The inauguration follows a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2025 between ITIDA and Konecta in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, under which the Spanish group committed to establishing a regional hub in Egypt supported by approximately $100 million in investments over several years.
Founded in Madrid in 1999, Konecta is among the world’s leading providers of customer experience and digital business-process outsourcing solutions. The company employs more than 109,000 people across 28 countries, delivering services in over 40 languages for clients spanning banking, telecommunications, retail, healthcare, travel and the public sector.
Egypt has steadily expanded its position as a regional outsourcing destination through investment incentives, digital skills programmes and infrastructure development. The government is increasingly focusing on attracting projects centred on artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity and advanced business services as it seeks to move beyond conventional contact-centre operations towards higher-value technology exports.
For Egypt, Konecta’s investment represents more than a corporate expansion. The long-term significance will depend on whether the Cairo headquarters evolves into a strategic global technology and innovation centre capable of delivering advanced AI solutions and high-value digital services to international markets, further strengthening the country’s position in the increasingly competitive global outsourcing industry.
