CAIRO — Al Ahly Industrial Development has received approval for the first four projects at its Abu Rawash investment zone, moving the EGP14bn development from infrastructure construction into its first tenant phase.
The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones approved projects by Egyptian Canning Company “BEST”, Nacita, Breadfast and Flextock Egypt, creating an initial concentration in food production, warehousing and logistics.
BEST and Breadfast will establish food manufacturing and packaging operations, while Nacita and Flextock Egypt will provide warehousing, storage and logistics services.
The approvals come as around 70% of infrastructure and site-preparation works for the first phase have been completed, according to Al Ahly Industrial Development Managing Director Sameh Gabra.
The 2.1mn-square-metre zone is planned to accommodate 118 factories, with targeted investment of EGP14bn and around 28,000 jobs across manufacturing, logistics and training services.
The first approvals point to an emerging food-and-logistics cluster, linking production with storage, fulfilment and distribution near Greater Cairo and major transport routes towards Alexandria and other governorates.
Al Ahly Industrial Development is majority-owned by Al Ahly Capital Holding, the investment arm of the National Bank of Egypt, with Orascom Construction’s industrial-development business holding the remaining stake.
The next test will be converting the first approvals into construction and production while expanding the tenant base. With most first-phase infrastructure already completed, Abu Rawash is moving from site development towards industrial execution.
