Egypt Allocates Over 1 Million Sqm for Hurghada Tourism Projects

Must read

CAIRO — Egypt’s Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has approved 16 land allocations covering more than one million square metres at the South Magawish Tourism Centre, south of Hurghada, for hotels, water parks and entertainment facilities, as part of efforts to expand accommodation capacity and increase visitor spending, according to a Ministry of Housing announcement on 6 October.

The projects are expected to provide approximately 856 hotel rooms and additional professionally managed accommodation. A separate existing development is planned to expand to a total capacity of 946 hotel units.

The allocations also include two water parks, one planned for operation by an international company, alongside tourism service centres and entertainment facilities designed to attract families and encourage spending beyond traditional resort accommodation.

Housing Minister Randa El-Menshawy said the developments would support tourism investment, hotel expansion and employment. TDA chief Mostafa Abdel Wahab said the authority would monitor implementation against approved schedules.

Egypt welcomed approximately 19 million international visitors in 2025 and aims to attract 30 million annually by 2030, increasing the importance of expanding hotel capacity and diversifying tourism services.

The government has not disclosed investment values, developers or completion dates. The projects’ economic contribution will depend on financing, infrastructure readiness and timely delivery.
