Egypt’s Chemical Exports to China Surge Eightfold as Trade Push Widens

Must read

Cairo, Egypt’s chemicals and fertilisers exports to China surged 678% year on year to $287 million in the first eight months of 2026, from $37 million a year earlier, making China one of the sector’s ten largest markets as Egyptian manufacturers seek to expand their Asian footprint. The $250 million increase substantially outpaced overall sector export growth of 30.2%, highlighting China’s growing importance to Egypt’s industrial export strategy.

Total chemicals and fertilisers exports reached approximately $8.25 billion during January–August, with the ten largest markets accounting for 56% of shipments. China represented about 3.5% of sector exports, while India emerged as another fast-growing destination, with purchases rising 325% to nearly $627 million.

The Egyptian Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilisers will seek to build on that momentum at the 140th Canton Fair in Guangzhou on October 23–27, returning with a joint national pavilion after several years of absence.

Organised with Egyptian trade authorities, the pavilion will showcase glass tableware, decorative glass and plastic household products, connecting manufacturers with international buyers and distributors.

Council Chairman Khaled Abu El-Makarim said the expansion demonstrated opportunities to strengthen Egyptian products’ international presence and establish new commercial partnerships.

However, the products behind the sharp increase in Chinese purchases have not been disclosed, leaving unclear how much of the growth reflects higher shipment volumes rather than prices or exceptional orders.

For Egyptian manufacturers, the next test will be converting stronger Chinese demand and trade-fair contacts into recurring contracts, while maintaining competitiveness against established Asian suppliers.
