Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC) produced nearly 2 million tonnes of high-octane gasoline in fiscal year 2025/26, its highest annual output on record and more than 30% of Egypt’s domestic production, as the country seeks to curb its reliance on imported petroleum products.
Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi said increased supplies of crude to domestic refineries were helping raise petroleum-product output and reduce the import bill. He called for further investment in refinery efficiency, energy conservation and product-quality controls.
ANRPC Chairman Sayed El-Rawy said the record output was supported by improved operating efficiency, planned maintenance and greater feedstock availability. The company expanded storage capacity by 10,000 tonnes to more than 140,000 tonnes and upgraded its gasoline-blending unit, increasing its efficiency by 35% and allowing about 200,000 tonnes of lower-octane intermediate products to be converted into higher-value fuel.
ANRPC said its energy-efficiency measures generated savings of about $5 million in 2025/26, compared with roughly $1 million a year earlier. A project using hydrogen-rich gases in its main boiler reduced natural-gas consumption by about 19,000 tonnes annually and cut carbon emissions by an estimated 56,000 tonnes a year, according to the company.
Separately, Amreya Petroleum Refining Company said crude throughput and petroleum-product output each increased 12% to about 3.3 million tonnes in 2025/26, supplying products to the domestic market valued at more than EGP76 billion. The company also restarted a hydrogen-production unit after more than 13 years offline.
The results come as Egypt seeks to extract greater value from its domestic refining system and reduce petroleum imports. The government has said refinery utilisation has risen to about 80%, supported by recovering domestic crude production and investment in refinery upgrades, as lowering the country’s fuel import bill remains a central objective of its energy strategy.
