Egyptian comedy Red Flag, starring Ahmed Hatem and Gamilah Awad, has generated an estimated SAR 6.6 million ($1.76 million) at the Saudi box office after three weeks, remaining among the Kingdom’s four highest-grossing films throughout its run.
The film earned about SAR 1.7 million ($453,000) in its third week, ranking fourth after placing second a week earlier with SAR 2.76 million. It had opened its Saudi run at No. 1 with roughly SAR 2.2 million.
The progression — No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 across its first three reporting periods — points to sustained audience demand despite a moderation in weekly revenues as competition increased.
Directed by Mahmoud Karim, Red Flag follows Hisham, played by Hatem, and his wife Habiba, portrayed by Awad, as their marriage is tested by jealousy, mistrust and romantic complications.
The film also stars Sherif Mounir, Nesreen Amin, Entesar and Mimi Gamal. It is based on an original idea by Kyrillos Ayman Fawzy, with a screenplay by Ahmed Mohie.
The film has now remained inside Saudi Arabia’s top four throughout its first three weeks, consolidating a solid theatrical run in the Kingdom.
