Omar Assar seals a dramatic 3–2 victory over Algeria as Egypt’s women defeat Tunisia 3–0.
TANGIER, Morocco, October 20, 2026 — Egypt retained both the men’s and women’s team titles at the African Table Tennis Championships, defeating Algeria and Tunisia respectively to complete a continental double.
The men’s final went down to the wire, with Egypt edging Algeria 3–2 after Omar Assar defeated Maheidine Bella in a five-game decider. Assar clinched the final game 17–15, securing the championship after more than three hours of competition.
Egypt’s women delivered a commanding 3–0 victory over Tunisia to claim their 10th consecutive continental team title.
Hana Goda opened with a straight-games win over Maram Zoghlami, before Dina Meshref defeated Ela Saidi. Hend Fathy completed the sweep with victory over Fadwa Garci.
The contrasting finals highlighted Egypt’s strength across both competitions: a hard-fought men’s triumph and another dominant performance by a women’s squad that has maintained its grip on the African team championship for a decade.
The double victory further strengthens Egypt’s continental record as its leading players seek to convert African success into stronger performances on the international stage.
