ALEXANDRIA, Egypt’s Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi will inaugurate the Mediterranean Offshore Conference and Exhibition (MOC 2026) on Tuesday, alongside Cyprus Energy Minister Michael Damianos, with new agreements expected to advance the development of Cyprus’s Aphrodite natural gas field.

The three-day conference, held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina from October 20 to 22, will bring together executives from Chevron, Eni, TotalEnergies and other international energy companies to discuss offshore investment, regional energy security and accelerating gas production.

The opening ceremony will include the planned signing of agreements covering fiscal arrangements, gas sales and transportation between Chevron and Egyptian authorities, aimed at connecting Aphrodite to Egypt’s existing gas infrastructure.

The project could strengthen Egypt’s position as an Eastern Mediterranean gas-processing and export hub, although development remains subject to final investment approval and outstanding commercial arrangements.

Conference organising committee chairman Mohamed Radwan said discussions would focus on accelerating exploration and production, applying digital technologies to reduce costs and risks, and attracting new investment.

The programme includes 11 discussion panels and 21 technical sessions covering offshore exploration, reservoir management, drilling, production optimisation, emissions reduction and digital transformation.

The conference comes as Egypt seeks to revive domestic gas production, reduce import dependence and expand regional energy cooperation through its established pipeline and liquefied natural gas infrastructure.
