CAIRO — Egypt has launched what the Ministry of Industry described as the country’s first locally developed industrial robot for a commercial factory application, extending its localisation drive into the capital equipment and automation systems used by manufacturers.
Developed by Egyptian robotics company Raedbots with the Industrial Modernization Centre and machinery manufacturer CUBII Industrial Solutions, the robot has an 80% local-content ratio, according to the developer and ministry. The target is 90% once its motor is manufactured domestically.
The system has been integrated into an industrial application at CUBII, which produces filling and packaging machinery for sectors including food, pharmaceuticals and chemicals. The ministry said performance will be monitored under factory conditions to assess operational reliability and production efficiency.
Agreements accompanying the launch cover industrial deployment, technical support for local manufacturers and educational robotics systems for Mansoura University’s Faculty of Engineering.
The project addresses Egypt’s dependence on imported industrial machinery, automation systems, components and technical services — an exposure that increases manufacturers’ foreign-currency requirements and the cost of factory modernisation.
Domestic robotics production could retain a larger share of industrial capital spending inside Egypt while developing local engineering, maintenance and systems-integration capabilities.
The decisive test is commercial scale. Reliability, precision, pricing, after-sales support and repeat orders will determine whether the project moves beyond a localisation milestone into a competitive capital-goods industry.
Success would mark a deeper stage in Egypt’s industrial strategy: replacing not only imported products, but part of the imported technology and machinery used to manufacture them.
