Egypt has launched four new initiatives aimed at expanding education, banking, insurance and digital services for Egyptians living abroad, reinforcing the government’s strategy to strengthen engagement with its global diaspora and improve access to public and financial services.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty witnessed the signing of the cooperation agreements during the opening of the Seventh Egyptians Abroad Conference in Cairo, held under the theme “No Matter How Far We Roam, Egypt Brings Us Home.” The two-day event brings together representatives of Egyptian communities worldwide with senior government officials to discuss policies and services targeting expatriates.
The agreements cover a broad range of services, including expanding the presidential “Speak Arabic” initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to help younger generations abroad preserve the Arabic language, Egyptian culture and national identity. They also include the launch of the “Sahl” initiative with Delta Masr for Payments to promote electronic payment services, the “Your Pension Tomorrow in Dollars” programme with Misr Life Insurance, and a protocol with the National Bank of Egypt and Banque Misr, under the sponsorship of the Central Bank of Egypt, to streamline customer data updates and expand access to digital banking services for Egyptians overseas.
The measures support Egypt’s wider digital transformation agenda and efforts to strengthen financial inclusion for its overseas citizens. Egyptians abroad remain one of the country’s most important economic constituencies through remittances, investment and knowledge transfer. According to the Central Bank of Egypt, remittance inflows surged to nearly US$29.4 billion during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2024/25, underscoring the strategic importance of enhancing banking connectivity and financial services for the diaspora.
Together, the initiatives reflect Cairo’s efforts to modernise public services for Egyptians abroad while deepening the economic, financial and institutional links between the state and one of its most important external constituencies.
