Egypt is strengthening its pipeline of skilled industrial workers after signing an agreement with the Elsewedy Electric Foundation to establish and operate eight Egyptian-German Applied Technology Schools, reinforcing efforts to align vocational training with employers’ needs and support long-term industrial development.
The cooperation protocol was signed in Berlin by Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif and Elsewedy Electric Foundation Chairman Ahmed Elsewedy as part of the wider Egyptian-German partnership to modernise technical education. The schools will join Egypt’s expanding Applied Technology Schools (ATS) network, which combines classroom learning with employer-led practical training to improve graduates’ employability and better match workforce skills with market demand.
Built on Germany’s dual vocational training model, the schools will offer competency-based programmes in advanced manufacturing, engineering, logistics and other technical disciplines, including mechatronics, CNC machining, electrical engineering, automotive maintenance, information technology and healthcare. Students will earn an official Ministry of Education diploma alongside an industry-recognised certificate issued by the Elsewedy Electric Foundation after completing practical training at Elsewedy facilities or other accredited training centres.
Elsewedy Electric, one of Egypt’s largest industrial and engineering groups, will also work with the ministry on curriculum development, school accreditation, transparent student admissions and the recruitment of qualified teaching staff to ensure programmes remain closely aligned with evolving labour-market requirements.
The agreement forms part of Egypt’s drive to reduce skills shortages in advanced industries through closer collaboration between education providers and employers. By expanding employer-led technical education based on internationally recognised standards, the initiative is expected to strengthen the country’s industrial skills base, enhance workforce productivity and support Egypt’s ambition to attract higher-value manufacturing investment while improving graduates’ employment prospects.
