Egypt Launches Franchise Drive to Expand Local Brands Across Regional Markets

Must read

Egypt has launched a nationwide franchising initiative to help domestic businesses attract private investment, expand without financing every new outlet and develop Egyptian-owned brands capable of competing in regional markets.

The Franchise Egypt Tour opened in Alexandria on 11–12 October, according to reports of the inaugural event, organised by Franchise International, part of the National Franchises Group, in cooperation with the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and the Alexandria Chamber.

Ahmed El-Wakil, President of the Federation and Chairman of the Alexandria Chamber, announced the establishment of a specialised franchise committee to support brand owners, investors and entrepreneurs. He said the chamber was also preparing a project with the European Union to provide technical assistance to Egyptian businesses seeking international expansion.

El-Wakil said the chamber had promoted franchising for more than 15 years, arguing that Egypt has domestic brands capable of becoming regional and international businesses.

Franchising offers an alternative to capital-intensive expansion: established companies can license their brands and operating systems to independent investors, potentially generating recurring royalty income while creating demand for Egyptian manufacturing, packaging, logistics and professional services.

Abeer Galih, CEO of the National Franchises Group, stressed that successful expansion requires standardised operations, legal protection and consistent service quality. Proven profitability and dependable supply chains are equally important to investors assessing franchise opportunities.

The initiative will extend to other governorates, although investment commitments, participating brand numbers and expansion targets have not been disclosed.

Its economic significance will ultimately depend on turning Egyptian businesses into profitable franchise networks that attract capital, strengthen domestic suppliers and generate sustainable revenues from regional markets.
