Egyptian industrial technology manufacturer Simplex has inaugurated its second production facility in 10th of Ramadan City following a US$50 million investment, supporting Egypt’s drive to localise advanced industrial machinery production and expand exports of high-value engineering products. The new 40,000-square-metre factory will manufacture Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines used in precision engineering, reinforcing the country’s industrial development strategy by increasing domestic production of capital equipment and reducing reliance on imported machinery.
The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, senior government officials, investors and industry partners, marking the start of commercial production under the government’s “Proudly Made in Egypt” initiative. The event also included the foundation stone ceremony for a third manufacturing plant, reflecting the company’s strategy to expand production capacity in response to growing regional demand for industrial machinery.
Founded in 2013, Simplex has grown into one of Egypt’s established manufacturers of CNC machinery, serving more than 4,500 customers and exporting to 34 countries across Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The company employs more than 400 engineers, technicians and administrative staff, while cumulative sales have exceeded US$100 million. According to the company, exports currently account for approximately 15% of production and are expected to increase following the commissioning of the new facility and recently announced distribution partnerships in Jordan and Kuwait.
CNC machines are fundamental to modern precision manufacturing, enabling the automated production of high-precision components for industries including automotive, aerospace, energy, defence, metal fabrication and industrial equipment. Expanding domestic production of such machinery is strategically important for strengthening local supply chains, improving industrial productivity and supporting the development of higher-value manufacturing across Egypt’s economy.
The investment aligns with Egypt’s broader industrial strategy to increase local value addition, develop domestic engineering capabilities and expand exports of manufactured goods. It also reflects growing private-sector investment in capital goods manufacturing, a segment regarded as essential to enhancing industrial self-sufficiency, improving productivity and supporting long-term export growth.
The expansion is expected to strengthen domestic supply-chain resilience, shorten equipment delivery times and reduce manufacturers’ exposure to exchange-rate volatility associated with imported capital equipment. As regional manufacturers increasingly seek reliable suppliers closer to their production bases, Egypt’s engineering sector is well positioned to benefit from rising demand for locally manufactured industrial technologies.
The new facility is expected to substantially increase Simplex’s manufacturing capacity while improving the availability of locally produced CNC machinery for domestic and export markets. The expansion is projected to create more than 1,000 direct jobs and over 10,000 indirect employment opportunities, contributing to industrial employment, technology transfer and the continued development of Egypt’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
As Egypt accelerates industrial diversification, investment in domestic machinery production is expected to become an increasingly important driver of export competitiveness, technological capability and industrial resilience, reinforcing the country’s ambition to establish itself as a regional hub for advanced engineering and manufacturing.
