Egypt will raise a statutory levy applied to entry and transit visas and overseas consular services to $15 from January 1, 2027, up 25% from the $12 rate introduced this year.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s Decree No. 2553 of 2026 sets the charge at $15, or its equivalent in foreign currency, for entry and transit visas processed by Egyptian authorities at ports of entry and for visas and consular services handled by Egyptian embassies and consulates abroad.
The change represents a $3 increase from the $12 levy that took effect on January 1, 2026. Egypt’s underlying legal framework, amended in 2025, allows the government to set the charge at up to $20.
The $15 figure is not, however, Egypt’s total tourist-visa price. Egypt’s official e-Visa platform currently lists tourism visas at $30 for a single entry and $65 for multiple entry. Authorities have not yet announced revised traveller-facing visa prices for 2027 or clarified how the higher statutory levy will be incorporated into e-visa and visa-on-arrival charges.
That distinction is important because reports describing the measure simply as a new “$15 visa fee” risk understating the amount travellers actually pay.
The increase comes alongside efforts to make entry procedures faster. Egypt launched a digital visa-on-arrival pilot at Cairo International Airport on August 1, using QR-based processing through online, mobile and airport channels ahead of a planned wider rollout.
The policy therefore combines higher visa-linked charges with lower administrative friction. The immediate increase is clear; the remaining commercial question for airlines, tour operators and travellers is whether Egypt will adjust its headline tourist-visa prices when the new levy takes effect in January.
